Many people would answer that Dan Brown’s best book is his top selling one, The Da Vinci Code. Released in 2003, this followed his main character Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu investigating a murder in the Paris Louvre museum where they discover a battle between Opus dei and priory of sion about the fact that Jesus Christ may have actually been married to Mary Magdalene. An interesting sub-plot and one that definitely raised a few eye brows. Dan Brown always stated he is not anti-christian and prefers to label his books as “thought-provoking”. It’s interesting that despite the sales and subsequent popularity the actual book as a novel took a fair bit of industry criticism. Mainly for its stereotypical portrayal of British and French characters. That being said, 80 million people who bought this book can’t all be wrong and whilst not being perfect it is still an excellent read.

Angels & Demons was released in 2000 before the Da Vinci code. Amazingly, it sold very little upon its first release and only took off in popularity after the Da Vinci code was such a success. Some people do argue that Angels & Demons is the better book of the two. Featuring Robert Langdon again, this book takes you across Switzerland, Rome and the Vatican in an effort to recover a bomb in a small time frame. Yet again, there was criticism in some quarters about the accuracy of the book. However, it’s worth remembering this book is in fact fiction and not meant to be an accurate portrayal of anything in particular. It’s suggested that if you’re going to read Dan Brown books then start with “Angels & Demons” and only then read the “Da Vinci” code. That was the original order anyway and you will appreciate the books more if read in their true order.

The Lost Symbol is the third in the Robert Langdon series and this is actually set after the events of the Da Vinci code. The setting for this one being Washington D.C! However, of the three books mentioned its worth noting that this one has been the least well received by fans. It was the fastest selling adult novel in history, however this was clearly based on the popularity of Dan Brown as a brand name then the quality of the book. Some fans have described it as being gripping and thrilling and “the best one yet”, whilst a lot of fans have branded it predictable and suggesting Dan Brown was running out of ideas. It truly is a book that has a lot of people split down the middle. Best to read it and decide for yourself!

So those are the three best Dan Brown books to look for if hoping to check out some of his stuff. The best one? Easily, The Da Vinci Code. However, we believe its best to read these books in the order they are written. Start with Angels and Demons and the pay off when you get to the end of Da Vinci will be worth it!
